H Hook & 1.2oz of Worsted Weight cotton yarn.  9” from heart to heart

NOTES: Bolded print: Repeated in pattern. “STS”=Stitches: Any st or ch sps.

Rnd 1: Ch4, work 11dc in 4th ch fr hook, join in top of beg ch4. (12dc)

Rnd 2: Ch3, 2dc in same dc.  [Ch1, skip a dc, 3dc in next dc] 5x.  Ch1 & join to top of first ch3.  (18dc & 6 Ch1 spaces)

Rnd 3: Ch3, 2dc in same dc, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in next dc.  [Ch2, skip ch1sp, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in next dc]5x.  Ch2, skip ch1sp & join. (42dc & 6 ch2 sps)

Rnd 4:  Skip 1dc, [+5dc in next dc, slst in next dc, 5dc in next dc. Skip a dc, slst in next dc, sc in next ch2sp.+  Slst in next dc, skip 1dc]5x. Repeat +to+ once.  Do not join!  (6 hearts)

Rnd 5:  [+Ch4, sc in slst between heart humps, Ch4+, sc in sc between next 2 hearts]5x.  Repeat +to+ once & join in first sc. If using a 2nd color, pull your color through with your joining. (push heart humps in front of the chains)   (12sc & 12 ch4 spaces)

However you choose to change/join your new color, make sure that in Rnd 6 you are starting your new color WHERE you joined at the end of rnd 5. 

Rnd 6: Ch3, [+3dc in next sp, ch1, 3dc in sc, ch1, 3dc in next sp+.  Dc in next sc]5x.  Repeat ++ once & join.  (60dc)

Rnd 7: Ch3, Dc in 3sts.  [+Ch2, sk-sp, 3dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in next dc, ch2, sk-sp+.  Dc in 7sts]5x.  Repeat ++ once,  dc in last 3sts & join.  

Rnd 8: Ch1, sc in same st.  Sc in 4STS.  [+Slst in next dc, sk-1, 5dc in next dc, slst in next st, 5dc in next st.  Sk-1, slst in next dc+, Sc in 9STS]5x.  Repeat ++ once.  Sc in last 4sts & join.
