SPECIAL STITCHES/ABBREVIATIONS:

 ~Heart Hump: Sl St in next dc, skip 1 st, (4DC) in next dc, sl st  in next dc, (4DC) in next dc, skip 1st, sl st in next dc.

~FPDC: Front Post Double Crochet

*NOTES* when you see “ST” this means the spaces as well.  So when you see SC in next 5 sts, it will mean SC in the ch spaces as well as dcs.

Rnd 1: Ch4, work 15DC in 4th ch from hook. Join (16dc)

Rnd 2: Ch3, (2DC) in same st.  [+Ch1, skip 1, DC in next st, Ch1, skip 1,+ (3DC) in next st]3Xs. Repeat +to+ once and sl st around post of beg ch3, not in the top.  (16dc)

Rnd 3: Ch3 (2FPDC) around same st. FPDC around next st, (3FPDC) around next st. [+Ch1, DC in next dc, Ch1,+ skip sp,  (3FPDC) in next dc, FPDC in next dc, (3FPDC) in next dc]3Xs  Repeat +to+ once and join in top of beg ch3.  (32dc)

*NOTE* Don’t ch in the beginning of this round. The joining sl st from rnd 3 counts as the 1st sl st.

Rnd 4: Skip 1st  (4DC) in next dc, sl st in next dc, (4DC) in next dc, skip 1st, sl st in next dc. [+SC in next 3sts+ Work a Heart Hump (see special stitches)]3Xs, Repeat +to+ once and join to 1st ss.  (32dc, 12sc, 12sl st)

Rnd 5: [+Ch4, Look behind the heart hump and the middle sl st, See the 2 horizontal loops that look like they connect the humps?  Well SC around those two loops.  Ch4, skip 4dc, sk sl st.+ SC in next 3sc, skip sl st.]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  SC in next 3sc.  Do not join. (8ch4 & 16sc)

Rnd 6:  Sl st into ch 4sp, ch3, 2DC in same sp.  [+Ch1, (3DC) in next sc, Ch1, (3DC) in next sp.  DC in 3sc.+ (3DC) in sp] 3Xs. Repeat +to+ once and join in beg ch3. 

Rnd 7: Ch3, DC in 2dc [+Ch2, skip sp, (3FPDC) around next dc, FPDC around next dc, (3FPDC) around next dc. Ch2, skip sp+ DC in 9dc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  DC in last 6dc.  Join. (64dc)

Rnd 8: Ch1, SC in same st.  SC in 2dc [+2SC in ch sp, work a heart hump.  2SC in sp+ SC in 9dc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  SC in last 6. Join to 1st sc.  (52sc & 32dc)

Rnd 9: Ch1, SC in same st.  SC in 4sc [+CH 4, skip sl st,  Look behind the heart hump and the middle sl st, See the 2 horizontal loops that look like they connect the humps?  Well SC around those two loops. Ch4, skip 4dc, skip sl st+ SC in 13sc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  SC in last 8. Join to 1st sc. (56sc, 8ch4)

Rnd 10:Ch3, DC in 4sc [+3DC in sp, ch1, 3DC in sc, Ch1, 3DC in sp+ DC in 13sc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  DC in last 8sc.  Join (88dc)

Rnd 11: Ch3, DC in 7dc [+Ch2, skip sp, (3FPDC) around next dc, FPDC around next dc, (3FPDC) around next dc. Ch2, skip sp+ DC in 19dc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  DC in last 11 and join. (104dc)

Rnd 12: Ch1 SC in same st, SC in 7dc [+2SC in ch sp, work a heart hump.  2SC in ch sp,+ SC in 19dc]3Xs Repeat +to+ once.  SC in last 11  and join. (92sc, 32dc)

Rnd 13: Ch1, SC in same st.  SC in 9sts, [+Skip sl st, Ch4, Look behind the heart hump and the middle slst, See the 2 horizontal loops that look like they connect the humps?  Well SC around those two loops., Ch4, skip 4dc, skip slst+ SC in 23sts]3Xs Repeat +to+ once and then SC in last 13.  Join (96sc)

*NOTE* This next round is based on how much your square measures.  Please measure and determine if you need a SC, HDC, or DC for Rnd 14.  The type of yarn, size of your hook, and your tension really make a difference. Once you have the stitch you plan on using, just follow this round, the count is the same. Remember to adjust your beginning ch, SC, is ch1, HDC is ch2, and DC is Ch3.  I had to DC to get my square to 12”

Rnd 14: Ch3, HDC in next 9sc, [+(3HDC) in next sp.  (3HDC) in next sc,  (3HDC) in next sp.+  HDC in next 23sc] 3Xs Repeat +to+ once and then HDC in last 13sc.  Join to beg ch2.  (128hdc)
